What are the PSJA Institutes?
Started in the fall of 2018, the PSJA Institutes provide students in-depth knowledge and hands-on experiences in various careers. Initially for 10th-12th grade students, it is now expanding to offer these opportunities as early as the 8th grade year!
PSJA students may apply to one of the following PSJA Institutes available for the 2022-2023 School Year:
- Pre-Law
- Education
- Mental Health & Human Services
- Engineering
- IT
- Sports Medicine
- Health Care
- Law Enforcement
As part of the institutes, students:
- Receive one-to-one mentorship from professionals in the field
- Learn what it takes to receive the degrees needed to excel in the profession
- Are part of special workshops, job shadowing and internship opportunities
“We are happy to provide our students from 8th-12th grade with these life-changing opportunities to learn from professionals in their career of choice,” said Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo, PSJA ISD Superintendent.
Since its inception with the first PSJA Institute in Pre-Law, spearheaded by Board of Trustees Jesse Zambrano, the opportunities for students have expanded to eight various fields of study.
Pre-Law
The PSJA Pre-Law Institute was started in the fall of 2018 with the intent to provide students interested in the field with hands-on learning opportunities. Spearheaded by then School Board President Jesse Zambrano, the PSJA Pre-Law Institute gathered multiple local attorneys and judges, most of them PSJA Alumni, to give back to their community by advising PSJA students throughout the year.
Students were able to witness real court proceedings, job shadowed, and interned with attorneys and judges. The goal of the program is to continue these practices and expand the program annually.
