What are the PSJA Institutes?
PSJA ISD students from 10th to 12th grade are eligible to apply to one of several PSJA Institutes available offering in-depth knowledge and hands-on experiences in fields such as: Law, Social Services, Engineering, IT, Sports Medicine, Entrepreneurship, Law Enforcement and Education.
As part of the institutes, students:
- Receive one-to-one mentorship from professionals in the field
- Learn what it takes to receive the degrees needed to excel in the profession
- Are part of special workshops, job shadowing and internship opportunities
The PSJA Institutes expanded from one to eight at the start of the 2019-2020 school year, after the successful implementation of the PSJA Pre-Law Institute, launched during the fall of 2018, where over 230 students participated throughout the year.
Mental Health & Human Services
The PSJA Pre-Law Institute was started in the fall of 2018 with the intent to provide students interested in the field with hands-on learning opportunities. Spearheaded by School Board President Jesse Zambrano, the PSJA Pre-Law Institute gathered multiple local attorneys and judges, most of them PSJA Alumni, to give back to their community by advising our students throughout the year.
In its first year of operation, students in 10th-12th grade were able to witness real court proceedings, job shadowed, and interned with attorneys and judges. The goal of the program is to continue these practices annually and expand the program as it grows.
